I locked two of my children in the car today.
Funny, because if I were able to choose when and where and how I locked my children in the car, that would have been it.
We were 5 min. from home, a good friend just happened to be at the same place we were right then, the extra key was hanging where it was supposed to be, it was 70 degrees outside AND even if all that hadn't worked out so nicely, Lydia was able to wiggle her way out of the car seat to come up front and push buttons per mom's instruction....that's right, she's almost three, changes diapers and rescues her mommy - that is one super kid.
Samantha's pretty super too for not crying the entire time! A miracle really, considering the stage she's in. This key thing happened after the police men saw us pulled over on the side of the road, stopped to ask us if everything was ok and I had to tell him that we were fine that I just pulled over to discipline my kids. Who knows what kind of conversation we evoked in that car. "I remember when my mom used to _____". - speaking of which, excuse me while I go put out another one of her fiery tantrums....

My mom totally locked Drew & I in the car once...I don't remember it at all.
And later in my life, she locked Will in the car and I do remember it. She was hyserical..and the police came!
So really...it's fine! :) haha
Hey sweetie, I thought you might appreciate a little story of another mother who locked her child in the car. She was also a young military wife with a husband who was constantly deployed. But her first child was loved beyond description. On that fateful day she had been to my house for a visit. As she secured her little angel in the car and was about to get in herself to go home she realized much too late that she had indeed locked the door with her baby and her purse inside. She cried and paced and was not the cool calm collected person she normally was. It didn't take very long to have a lot of attention on that one small curly head sitting sedately in her car seat. The MP's quickly freed the captive and after a trip back inside my house and the prescribed cup of tea the young mother and her angel were soon on their way home with no permanent damage to the child but the mommy showed much attention for a while. You're right it was your own precious mom! So take courage it happens to everyone but you handled it with more grace and humor than I usually hear of.
