God has been tugging at me for some time now to get the girls and myself involved at a local nursing home.
Today was the day. I made the call a month ago, God called about a year ago but today was the actual day!
I took Lydia and Samantha by themselves for our first visit. Being unfamiliar with the environment I wanted to scope it out before we invaded their space with our five ring circus.
Now that we know what we're in for we will all go every other Thursday to play and share Jesus with all our new grandma and grandpa friends.
The girls did great.
Samantha was so comfortable there that she would run up to the residence, climb on their wheel chairs and wave 'hello' in their face. Almost like she knew that she had to be that close for it to mean something.
Tears tears tears from mom, smiles smiles smiles from the sweet souls at Huntington Park Care Center....God has truly ordained Lydia and Samantha (at least) to be care takers and ones who see where God is.
A quote from a friends blog and our 'banana tree's' front door:

(*there apparently is a saying in parts of Africa–”Just leave them beneath the banana tree.” It is said in regards to birth defect and handicapped babies born there. Beneath the banana tree is where they are often left to be exposed to the elements and die.) .....I think I have discovered that perhaps I have searched for God in all the wrong places. Because all along he has been ‘beneath the banana tree’ with the world’s broken, discarded and forgotten children… J.L.
our new friends are not children but have been 'left to die' and I am determined to teach my children to go where God is young or old.

beautiful, holly.
God is hanging out where most are unwilling to go. Good for you.
This gave me goose bumps! And makes me smile. This summer we taught our students (I worked in California w/ Centrifuge!) about 'God with the abandoned. And God with the Sick'...and I truly just see that in your family. I love it! You Panters ROCK!! -Erika
I think it's great you're taking the girls there. I did that with my kids when they were smaller and they loved it. The residents loved it also. Now, my kids are involved in our Rest Home ministry at church. They love it.

What a beautiful quote, and what a beautiful thing to teach your girls. Your visits will mean more to the residents then you will ever know. I'm blessed by your obedience! Have a great week.
