thoughts on crying from a mother of twins and a mother who's had a baby in her care for over 3 years now:
Twins cry more - they just do.
Why?
Well, people's automatic thought is that they would cry less because 'they have each other' (HA!)
'having each other' does have it's limits and does not keep one from 'feeling'
Twins cry more because:
1. when one is crying the other one starts - just because
2. if you have one baby and it is crying, you just pick it up. if you have two babies and they are both crying (see #1) there is no point in picking one up because it doesn't make the crying stop.
3. they are constantly in competition for attention and mom can't get there as fast because of the sheer volume of kids (ok, maybe that's just in situations like mine but I don't believe that totally)
4. all sicknesses last longer and seem more intense, again, the sheer volume
5. did I mention sympathy crying yet?
so, if you are in fantasy land about wanting twins (this does not apply to those of you already in the works for twins - Jody and Kristy!) then may this bring you back to reality
If you are in the works for twins then just hang on, it's a ride! (yes, there are good things too - so I hear. they say that stuff starts at around age 3)
