what now?

and Sophie has now officially climbed out of her crib 2 1/2 times (in one week)

one was graceful, my mom was here and didn't even hear her hit the floor
the other was painful, screaming, Nora pointing and yelling "DOWN! DOWN!"
the '1/2' was me catching her in the act

I say again, what now?
(and I'm warning you not to say it's time for big girl beds unless you have four children under 3....)

Sorry to say it first... But if I say it perhaps it will save you some heartache. My nephew (having never even pulled up to furniture or crawled) managed to pull up and over the side of his crib and broke his collar bone and arm.He was in a full shoulder and arm cast for months.
Big girl beds sound way better than broken bones.
Tough decision. Sorry.
I decided to take both of my kids out at their first birthdays and just put the crib matress on the floor for a few months.

i have a friend that has twins 2 years olds (and a 5 and 3 year old too). she has these things that go on top of their cribs and basically "zips" them in. they CAN'T get out. i think you can get them at babies r us. don't know if that sounds "mean" to you - but they've been a lifesaver for her!

I like the zipper idea. But when Tyler started doing it, the girls hadn't been in their big girl beds all that long. But it was pointless to have him in a crib anymore. But I removed everything harmful from his room and then put his mattress on the lowest level (his crib converted to toddler bed), but I put a gate up at the door. It worked for quite awhile. I even propped it up just a tad to make it higher. There is nothing harder than making that transition...especially with two...I'd try the zipper thing!!

I was going to suggest the "zippered netting" too. My friend Jill couldn't live without it for her son. She was worried about him seriously hurting himself. He's now 3 and in a big boy bed, but for about a year she was sooooo glad she made the investment! Never a dull moment!!!:)

i was going to say "what now" myself--tate climbed out of his crib this week. surely he is WAY too young for a big kid bed already. maybe we should try the zipper thing too . . .

My theory with little ones who can get into way too much if allowed to wander out of bed is to leave them until they can't stretch out fully. When the feet are beating the end with hands bracing the other end you have to let them out of the crib. Let them stay as long as you can. Lizzie just came out of the crib a few months ago and she's 2 1/2.

Get the net/zipper thing. I've heard they work like a charm.
I leave my kids in the crib as long as humanly possible!

I just don't know. I have to be honest and say that I'm not a fan of 'caging' them ;-)- I rarely use baby gates, never used pack and plays unless for sleep, and the zipper thing might put me over the edge.
(I know, my loss, but I'm sure there are many things I do that you'd NEVER - I'm getting very tolerant of 'other people's ways' in my old age)
So, it's probably just big girl bed time and stripping their room of all things dangerous/sacred/anything but mattresses.
here goes nothin'!

zip em up! I know I'll use it when Brookie gets to that point. :)

Oh sister friend, maybe you can find a "crib tent" (see doesn't that sound better) at a resale shop or Craigslist and give it a try? It is just like a canopy bed for little girls - little girls who could climb everest if given the chance. Think less cage and more magical adventure. : )

I giggle...if restraints and gates are not what you want to use...then yes...bite the bullet...be prepared...do the Super Nanny thing and go for it!! You can do it!!!
