I'm moving.

not literally.
but I do wish.
to a remote island.

I said "yes" to Lydia playing with one of her girlfriends down the street today and a few minutes later I turn my head to see her and her friend trodding into a completely different house.
A house with people who moved in last week, I met yesterday and other than the fact that they have a five year old and a twelve year old I know very little about.
Was I so wrong to freak out?
No. No doubt in my mind.
(What I didn't see was my good friend standing behind the car watching the whole thing, but STILL!)

Unfortunately for everyone I was yelling at Lydia to stop - making me look like a fool.
It was a miscommunication but in my defense "Emma" and "Emily" sound exactly alike out of the mouth of an almost four year old.

No, she can't come in.
I'm sure your house is very clean, it looks cute but she can't come in.
I know it's just a movie but she can't come in.
I'm sure your family is completely normal but no, she can't come in.

So, now I'm the overprotective, religious nut job on the street.
What irks me most!?
These girls are five, four and three......
TOO YOUNG.

I shouldn't have to get into the whole "I need to know the family" thing until later - right?
And a new chapter of prayer begins in my life today.
For the protection of my jewels and the loss of my reputation!

The loss of your reputation is worth the protection of your jewels any day. I'm right with you sister! Keep up the good work.

Keep it up. My neighbors think I'm a nut job too. There's not too many people I trust my little ones with. Wish you were closer, I'd trust you. And since you've already got 4 I'm sure my three wouldn't be too much more to handle :)

Some of my neighbors think I'm a little nuts and overprotective too, Holly. I would have done exactly what you did. I don't let my daughter go into anyones house that I don't know or trust. Cherith

Way to go Holly! I would have done the exact same thing....until I had time to perform a background check on each person in the new family along with an hour long interview : ) Seriously, even nice families could have a crazy uncle come over to visit, if you know what I'm sayin. I don't allow my kids to go anywhere unless I know the parents WELL. It's just not worth it. Who cares what people think!

I pray that I will do the same thing. These are your babies and are not to be trusted with just anyone. I say you were completely right in your actions and when your children have ones of their own they will understand. You go girl!!! Reputation vs. safety...safety any day!!!

Reputation of protecting your children. I would wonder what the other folks are thinking in this day and age just letting kids in their house without saying So young ladies who is your mommy and does she know you are over here? Let's go check with her first OK....

Now go bake a big cake and welcome them to the club!
