foster kids

I am drawn to the unloved of this world. Especially the unloved teenagers.

Our small group is researching ways to get involved with the foster care system here in our state and in that research I thought I'd go see who these kids are.
yeah.
that was asking for it.
I am now sitting in a pile of tears - I have picked three very lovely ladies I now want to add to our family- ages 15, 14 and 13.
I know, they are close in age, but that's how we do it around here, right?

We can't.
We can't do it RIGHT NOW.
We will though.
We will go snatch teenagers from the foster care system and bring them to a forever home - one day, we will. We will come.

I throw around all kinds of adoption ideas in my head, all the time...African, Chinese, babies, toddlers, kids, teenagers, Guatemalan, drug babies, etc....but I never fail to come back to foster-adopting older girls, right here in my own country. Never.
I know that now is not the time in our lives to pursue this, we want to be all about making sure our girls now have the foundation they need before introducing years of possible hurt into their home, but anytime is a good time to get your feet wet so until we can bring them home, we will provide what help we can outside of our home.
(in the process of working on that and am almost done - can't wait to share!!!)

I even find myself praying for whoever it is that will one day be a part of our family. I can't help but think that they may already have been born, my mind starts to wonder at the hidden hurt they are experiencing, I am paralyzed with fear for them, I wonder if my girls now will be involved with their gifts and then I snap out of it and return to praying.
This cycles through my heart almost daily.
We're coming but in the mean time, we're praying.

I pray for my "girls" too...wherever they are! :) You would LOVE the book "Small Town, Big Miracle" - I couldn't put it down (except to wipe tears!)

:o)! This is the EXACT thought process that led me to becoming a Child Saving Institute volunteer. I just finished my big training and am about to be assigned as a mentor to someone in their young parent program. They have a huge need for volunteers of all types. I am getting my feet wet on this one and getting to know the amazing people who have dedicated their careers to helping out kids in need and learning from their experience. Their motto is "Responding to the cry of a child." It doesn't get better than that.

I have this same passion also. I we are also a military family and that somehow complicates the process. I also checked out your cake blog, i like making cakes too. Seems we have lots in common. I have enjoyed reading a few of your posts:)
