I need your help.

in your words....

What is a Christian?

I'll explain why I need this later, but I just wanted to see what you all had to say! (no wrong answers ;-)

NOTE: great answers so far - can't wait to tell you why I asked....I just want to throw out there a challenge to anyone(s) who does NOT consider themselves a Christian - what is a Christian to YOU? Please don't be intimidated by the answers so far - trust me, you'll love what's in store!!!

well honestly I think the word has been overused by the world in recent years. Everyone claims to be a "Christian", but I believe it's what should define us from the rest of the world. It should mean that we believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God and that He died on the cross for our sins and rose again on the 3rd day and that He is Lord of our life. But in some cases it doesn't mean that and that's where I think the word is overused, because most people think if you say you're a Christian, you are either a "good person" or a hypocrite.

I hope that made sense! : )

I think what the world defines 'Christian' as...and what WE define 'Christian as are two different things. I think of it like this: I live in The United States of America and my citezinship is to this country. My Loyalty is to this country. I am an American. I may live in Arizona - but I don't call myself an Arizonian...I am an American first. So then in the same way, I am a follower of Christ. My loyalty and love is for Him alone. I am a Christian. I may be a part of a certain denomination, but I am not a Baptistian, or a pentecostalian..I am a Christian.

...If that makes sense...

The long definition would be that a Christian is one who:

1. Believes that God the Father demands total perfection in thought, word, deed & motive in order to be accepted by Him
2. Believes that they are a sinner incapable of attaining God's perfect standard and therefore in desperate need of mercy
3. Believes that Jesus is the Son of God who willingly bore God's wrath for their sins on the cross
4. Believes that Jesus lived the perfect life on earth that they could never live
5. Believes that God's wrath is satisfied by punishing Jesus instead and that Jesus' perfect life has been credited to their account so God sees them (a sinner) as perfectly righteous as He sees Jesus
6. is in wonder that God would provide His beloved Son as the means by which sinners can be adopted into His family

Of course, depending on the audience, it may need to be simplified as one who knows that they are a sinner who cannot please a righteous God, but believes that Jesus died bearing the punishment for their sins so that God will not count their sins against them anymore.

An imperfect lover and follower of Christ. Who believes Christ died to save us from our imperfections.

One who has been blessed by God to have their heart opened by the Holy Spirit. They then can see their sinfulness and need for the sacrifice Christ gave on their behalf. With the faith given to them by God they place their trust in this work of Christ and open themselves to His reconstructive work in their lives. They are then in for one amazing journey...

A christian is someone who knows that Christ saved them from a deadly situation and spends the rest of their life trying to follow in His footsteps. Loving Christ is losing the world to gain eternity with Him.

But it's more than a just realization of something true. It's like marriage - the wedding is a huge event - but it's only the beginning. It's really about the rest of life and exemplifying who Christ is through reactions to what life throws in the way and how people can see Christ through the way a person lives.

I define "Christian" as someone who believes in Jesus Christ, and tries to follow his teachings.

A Christ follower.

An individual with a saving faith in Christ. Not academic knowledge of Him and His works, but a sold out heart knowledge.

A christian...a Christ follower, filled with the Holy Spirit...lives this out by trying to live "Christ" like by being generous, loving, and giving at all times and therefore sticks out in a secular world.

The word "Christian" to me means a mirror image of Jesus. We should reflect Him in everything we do, say and think. The world should look at us and see Him and want to share in the abundant life we have. Sadly the American church has lost sight of Who we serve... The ONE who lives in us... The SOURCE of our love and relationship..The ONE who takes away the fear of tomorrow... The ALPHA and OMEGA!!! PRAISE HIM FOR HE IS THE ONLY ONE WORTHY OF PRAISE. I pray for revival and healing of our wonderful country.

Been thinking of your request all week.

I'll answer but be open minded please.

I believe religions in general provides a moral set for people. Christian, muslims,Islam,Buddhism, Judaism... (most major catagories) try and teach the same basic princples. Mainly be a good person and treat others the way you want to be treated.
I understand that no religion is perfect and that even if you belong to a group you may not agree with everything they have to teach.
I believe a christian is someone who chooses to follow the moral set of the life of Jesus Christ.

Hope this helps in your survey, not sure if it is what you are looking for.
