updates on all.

Samantha: ok. so. I still have no idea if not medicating makes for a harder but shorter sickness. I can't remember where in the world I heard that or conjured that up in my brain.
Either way at about 4:30p her temp was 104 and so I broke down and Ibuprofened her up.
I gave her two cool baths lasting about 10 min each. One at 2p and one at 5:30p.
I knew she was breaking at about 5:30 which is why I dunked her a second time. Thought I'd help bring her temp down from the outside while her body worked on the inside.
Can you tell I am no medical professional? 'Dunk' is a technical term in my world!
She was back down to 100 at 7p and now the fever is gone, she's just beat.
I'll take beat.

Emily: In case you haven't had the chance to check www.emilypanter.blogspot.com, Emily is doing better. Not out of the woods but ok. We are still anxious and in deep prayer but she is showing great signs. I'll be honest. It's still scary. Very scary. The main focus right now and the thread that all the other pieces are hanging by is the recovery of her kidney's. Again, many more details on the blog. Please keep praying. This is huge.

You're right about the shorter but harder illness. Fever is one of the body's ways of killing off foreign invaders. By letting the fever run it's course the illness will be shorter because the fever helps to kill it...it also makes your kid completely miserable.

So if you can deal with a kid who feels really awful you can get through the illness faster. I don't think anyone will yell at you for medicating though.

On the other hand, I learned that cool baths are not effective, so you'd be best off skipping them in the future. You were nice though, my parents told me they stuck me in an ice bath when I had a fever as a kid. Yikes!
