shoot.

meal times are especially torturous around here lately.

I have some things that I refuse to give into - based on things I don't want them to become.

one of them is eating what is prepared before them, even if they don't love it, and be thankful that at least they have food.

I've worked with highschoolers for over 9 years now and one thing that DRIVES ME CRAZY is how picky they seem to be getting in the food department (as a culture) and how their choices so closely resemble 'kid food' - p.b. & j's, mac and cheese and cheese pizza....out side of this, quote, "it's gross".

very frustrating and rude and ungrateful.
and my theory is that the parents just gave up and fixed them 'kid food' to avoid the fight.

I see why - TRUST ME - I see why.
EVERY MEAL, I see why.

and yet, I have more practice at being stubborn than these little girls do.

today, however, I'm not being so 'cool' about it.

I just made everyone go down for an early nap and told them,
"if you don't want to eat, then I won't fix you any food....NO DINNER!!!"

and I meant it, and I will follow through (they won't starve, they'll just be uncomfortable and that's kinda what I'm going for)

one problem.

the 22 year old, newly married gal who lives down the street was walking her dog right past my house and our windows were open as I was SCREAMING this out to everyone.

and we all know, she knows better than me and she will NEVER say anything like that or scream at her children ;-)

she did about 10 double takes.....looked very concerned for my children's well being.....and slowed her pace considerably to see what else I'd say.

if I don't blog for a few days it's because CPS came.

how embarrassing.
and yet another reason to not yell at my children.....as if I needed another one.

they still aren't getting dinner.

and for the record...it's just Samantha, Nora and Sophie.

Man.  those three need a nick name this week.

i just got a snarky comment from a 20-something on my blissfully domestic post (you can read it for yourself since she posted it for all to see!). i had to read my post again to see what she was talking about, and i still didn't get it. some day, they will see. they will know. they will understand!

(we have the same policy re: food at our house.)

I feel so validated after having read this post! My daughter is super picky too, and I just have to put my foot down when it comes to her rejecting everything I make. Unfortunately, many of my childless friends look at me like I am a monster ... sigh ... just one of the many things about parenting that are hard to explain to a non-parent!

laughing. still laughing. love those neighbors...everything echoes in our neighborhood so I know everyone hears the crazy lady in this house yelling....I'm really gonna work on that. no dinner, ha good for you. I always hate when things come out of my mouth that I have to follow through with. =) no dinner is fine. Gracie never eats cause she says "i don't like it"....

Tucker goes to bed "hungry" on a regular basis...I figure if he is hungry enough he'll eat...and I agree...I've had way longer to be stubborn than my kids. I WILL win!:)

And it does pay off and they do start eating things better!!

My mom always tells the story of her open-window-screaming-at-the-kids. My dad was outside working and came to the window to say, "Linda...the neighbors can hear you!"

We've all done it!!

We have the same food policy. Good thing what we don't have are neighbors ;-)
