first day SUCCESS!

Day 1 was fabulous!

Nora and Sophie lasted way longer than I had anticipated - which is great!
Lydia was, obviously, the most interested but Samantha was right there, quiet and absorbing absolutely everything!
It almost felt too simple, but it was good.
This is going to be good - and I am so excited!

I should have known it was going to be a great morning when we hadn't even started and Lesson 1 (that's what I named him) was laying on our front porch....'sleeping with a hole in him's tummy' (according to Nora):

Our/Holly's rules for the School Year:

Don't...
...commit to morning activities for anyone
...raise my voice in frustration
...skip days
...turn on computer before 12pm
...start before 9am or go past 12pm
...compare. period.
...stick with curriculum that isn't working
...answer the phone, except for Jake
...be arrogant
...do any activity outside of schooling from 9am-12pm, Mon-Thurs (or Tues-Fri IF holiday on Mon)

Do...
...Pray and work on memory verse together, every morning
...Prepare each day the night before
...Everyone does Bible and Reading
...Lydia and Samantha do all
...9am-12pm only
...Only as much as fits in 3 hrs
...Projects that focus on widows/orphans/voiceless continually
...Everyone gets concentrated one on one time with mommy. Min: 5 mins. Max: 30 mins.
...Protect, Build, Trust, Persevere
...Get dressed, eat and do chores before each school day starts/before 9am

this years verse:
1 Cor 13:4-7
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Loves does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

I am FULLY aware that many of those are redundant.
It means that I know I struggle with them or am going to struggle with them.
I have to put it out there that I am embarrassed to even share that list....but it's my list and it's the real thing and you know how it goes around here.

I have a DO list so I know where to start and a DON'T list to know where to end.

The verse...we are a family, we LOVE each other and understanding what LOVE is fully will help our family grow and move forward, so what better verse to cling to than the instruction guide?

Can't wait for tomorrow!

Way to go Holly~ So glad you had a wonderful first day.
So, is "Lesson 1" a palmetto bug? It was hard for me to see, but that is what it looked liked.
The girls look adorable in their head bands. Did you make those? I have been looking for a pattern to make some myself.
Hugs!!!!!

This is what would be on my "don't" list, if I were you...
-don't eat the entire bag of mini snickers that are only meant for running for breakfast.
-don't resort to bribing the children with the mini snickers that are only meant for running.
-don't reward myself at the end of the school day with mini snickers that are meant for running.
Of course, that's just what I would have to have on my list.

LOVE the cute hair and headbands! I found a great scripture memory/review box that I just got set up, and am very excited about that and our family prayer box. I want to put pictures in it of people we are praying for on different days of the week, so we can each have a prayer card at dinner every night and we can be more consistent in family times together. I love having a globe at the dinner table as we talk and pray together. I am taking notes from you, girl, so thanks for sharing what is working for you.
