How we organize school

just for fun, this is what we do:

here is the school room:
(I know, I know, I just loved my dining room sooo much that I decorated our school room the exact same ;-)

all our materials, games and extra curriculum are stored in this dood dad, in the 'duplicated' living room:
(I think, in real life, it's called a side-board and it's for all your fancy dished and linens...that we do not own!)

the underneath and inside shots:

and here's where it gets good.
this is our everyday stack
all the books, notebooks, binders and supplies that we use every single day.
the only everyday things we use out of the side board are the game cabinet and markers/crayons.
but other than that, you're lookin' at it all:

I love how simple it is.
I'm not a collector and I think it's even to a fault.
My kids are missing out on some cool resources, but their mommy is pretty chillax these days, so that's good, right?

My only dislike is that I don't have a way to show case the girls recent projects in a manner that won't make me feel like:
construction paper took over my walls,
I have to use frames to switch things out,
I can only showcase certain sized and shapes of art but that also will make them super excited about seeing their hard work.

I think I just need an extra wall in my house.

I will figure out something, but until then, I'm just going to dream about school rooms like this:

or this:

and while we're dreaming, I'll take a few of these:

(I have serious heart palpitation over the last picture - serious.)

Oh my....I need to stop looking at that last picture, but I can't seem to look away. Ahh, it's just so grand. Except if that were my pad you'd have to envision it with that wall of books scattered all over the floor, thanks to Marvelly scaling the shelves and chucking them down. Maybe in like 20 years. :)

Thanks for the peek. Oh how I long for a sideboard doodad like your :) Till then we are collecting similar supplies and I'm trying to keep them in cupboards, but they come out a lot and then never seem to want to return. As for the last pictures, I get heart palpitations too, but they are of a different nature. I just think how horrible it would be if I lived there because the floor would have stuff all over it and the furry rug would be all kinds of colors and my dog would be gnawing on the pretty decorations.... yikes! Why can't I keep my stuff super nice like in the magazines? Oh ya, I think you spell it L-I-V-I-N-G, and not quite the way Martha does it, you know?

Have you ever thought about something like this...
http://www.etsy.com/listing/47836073/hanging-kids-wooden-art-clip?ref=sr_gallery_38&ga_search_query=kids+art+displays&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=&order=&includes%5B0%5D=tags&includes%5B1%5D=title
It looks super easy to make. :)

The coolest art display I've ever seen in a home was a simple clothes line hung against the wall in a laundry room. (it was a big laundry room She had room for 4 lines) Mom saw the works of art every day and as her little ducklings followed her everywhere they also got to see their works of art hung. The kids thought it was great because their work was displayed. Mom thought it was great because she didn't have to look at cluttered walls in the main portion of the house. They discussed space, proportion, perspective, etc. while she folded clothes.
Hope it gives you some ideas!

Do you have a little wall space to attach a thin piece a string or embroidery floss between 2 thumb tacks? I have these in the kids' bedrooms. They use clothespins to display their art and awards. It's not as messy as fridge art. Have fun teaching!

I photograph the kids art and then use them as my screensaver. You can put them on a flash drive and then even put them on those cool frames that that normal people put photographs on, but we homeschoolers put spelling rules and stuff we want our kids to see all the time ,but refuse to turn our house into a kindergarten classroom. Keep loving your simplicity, because after 13 years of homeschooling I know what your up against.
