eatin' alive.

Virginia is nice.
And beautiful.
And there's a lot to do.
And we are liking it....

but these past few days, I'm just not sure about this place anymore.

it's not the heat.
or the traffic.
or the adrenaline that seems to surge through everyone's veins at rapid paces around here.

it's the bugs.

namely, the flying ones.
the horse flies, the mosquitoes and the bees.

1. Samantha stepped on a bumble bee about two weeks ago.
Left it's stinger right in her middle toe.  (I promptly killed all the clover in our yard the day after)

2. Friday, Lydia AND I were bit by the same horse fly at a pool. Lydia on the head....it was BLEEDING and me on the back, it left a huge welt, through my bathing suit.

It came to get me a third time but I think my jiggling cellulite scared it away.

I think we made it mad by flailing all around-screaming at the top of our lungs-waving our towels around-jumping in the water-swatting at it because it was literally attacking us.

I am NOT exaggerating.  Like, we ran to the lifeguard room, I left the girls there, waited a few minutes, got our stuff as fast as I could and WE LEFT.  Because of a mad horse fly.
(we will not be going back to that pool the rest of the summer....OH...and no one helped!!!! it was traumatizing.)

3.  Saturday, I went running (oh yes...it does not end there)....I was on mile SIX of a seven and a half mile run when it happened.
I WAS STUNG BY A BEE IN MY ARM PIT!

(sort of my arm pit, sort of my inner arm, sort of the back of my arm....right where my pony tail end flips to when my arm goes back)

I was IN MOTION.
I was wearing all BLACK.
And the car/water/help was 1.5 miles away.
WHAT GIVES!!!!!!??????

(I literally ran with my arm up in the air so it wouldn't rub/chafe for the rest of the run)

Oh, and I took this picture 10 min's ago...it's Tues afternoon and it still looks like this:
By the way, this is the second time in my life that I've been stung by a bee.
The first time I was also in motion (jumping off a picnic table) and caught the bee in my other arm pit.  When I landed I squished it up in there and BAM! I got stung.

two times. both in motion. both in arm pits.  seriously?

ok.

So,
yesterday.

4.  I sent the girls outside at 5pm to play for 30 MIN'S.
They came in with 24 mosquito bites.

TWENTY FOUR.

I don't even know how to respond to this.
Jake told me to stop feeding my kids to the wildlife...

Your armpit is lookin' heinous. It's kinda gravitated from a welt to this funky blotchy reddening mass. (Aren't you glad your friends with me? )
That must of been one heck of a bee! :~)

And I would of paid good money to see you flailing all about, at the pool, in front of all the other people, trying to take down a horse fly. That would have been hilarious! Except had I been there I would have been flailing and screaming with you.

And agreed...we crossed some kind of line. We are so freakishly the same. :~)

Love ya!

we played outside for 10 min the other day and caleb had 14 mosquito bites. on him they turn into these huge welts and he looks like he has the mumps. then he scratches them till they bleed and it looks like he has some sort of pox. And today we saw some sort of weird hybrid thing that looked like half bee half hornet and no lie it was prob 4 inches long. the stinger alone looked about 1 inch. I feel ya sista
