We have been discussing the possibility of Lydia giving away her birthday party for a long time.
In those discussion came the idea of our 'gift' to Lydia.
We usually pick out their gifts, wrap them and give them to our kids for their birthdays.
We usually have a general idea of what they want so it's worked out fine.
But when I suggested that if Lydia gave her party away then maybe we could do a special date and she could go with mommy and daddy to pick out her own birthday present from us.....
she was hooked and it was as if it was her idea from the beginning and the word maybe had never even been there.
She'd trade all those surprise gifts from friends and us to pick out the ONE that she wanted most.
Such an oldest child thing to do, isn't it?
(the good news is, it went over so well, all the other sisters are 'thinking' about doing what Lydia did!)
Lydia's choice?
Build-A-Bear.
a world we had not entered and honestly, I'd hoped to never enter it.
but on these terms we gladly waltzed through the doors!
I'm so glad we did.
what a PRECIOUS time we had.
Just Lydia, her daddy and her mommy picking out a bear....er....Kitty....whatever, it was precious.
Lydia is seven.
We are proud of the condition of her heart.
I feel like we've done 1,000,000 posts about her birthday....it's ok, she's totally worth it!

So sweet! Great special treat! I loved it, we waited until Claire was 5 to go, and used a gift certificate she had gotten for her 4th birthday. I told Todd we'd only go again when Grace was 5.
