why oh why does my hair not look like this at 7:30am?
This little girl (Sophie) just announced out of the blue that she does not like eyebrows or shadows.
mmmkay.
a few minutes later I asked her to go make her bed to which she replied, "I already did! You're gonna freak out!"
(what is it with them and me 'freaking out'!?)
There are a lot of reasons, really, but THIS article sums up what Jake and I would probably deem the biggest reason why.
The author, John Gatto, has written several of mine and Jake's favorite books on education, along with John Holt. They both have their wackiness - but they are both so dead on! I would suggest reading them whether you are a homeschooler or not. Knowing what public and most private schools are doing for/against the education of your kiddos is important. Well, I think it is ;-). They will help you to help your kids (and yourself!) never loose the love of learning or self-discovering!

i really just have to say that my kids aren't getting the kind of education he describes in their public schools. we LOVE the schools our kids are attending. we LOVE how much they are learning, we LOVE how their teachers are helping them discover who they are, we LOVE their teachers and we love how excited they are about learning when they come home from school.
it is hard not to resent an article that makes things so black-and-white, "us/them,"--not all public schools are bad...
