sweet weekend

got to spend a lot of my weekend with a dear old friend.
well...she's not old, our friendship is.
well...not that old, but for a few military wives it's like ancient!

when I introduced myself to Kara I walked right up to her door, she'd just moved in down the street from me, knocked on it and said,
"Hi! My name is Holly, do you go to church somewhere? Do you know Jesus?"

ok, so not exactly like that, but pretty close.
(really close actually.)

She said "my name is Kara, you are a religious freak, get off my porch"
:-)

ok, so not exactly like that, but almost.

Three years later Kara does know Jesus, personally, intimately and is thirsty for more of Him.

There were many girls nights out, hours in my rocking chairs, hours in her ridiculously clean and comfy home, hours watching our girls do gymnastics, dance and acting classes together, hours of just being friends, hours of praying over her life.

I love the military life.
I love moving.
It is a beautiful adventure.
But being apart from friends like this will always be one of the most painful parts, beat only by being apart from family.

I love you Kara!!!!
SO good to get to see you and talk with you in person!
Such a gift....

(no clue why we chose the WWII Memorial to take the only picture of the two of us together - there were like 1,000 other cool places we went - like Ethiopian food, Old Town Alexandria, hip seafood restaurants, fair-trade retail stores, etc....but WWII Memorial it was!?
we were busy...having fun!)

So fun to see her and go back and remember such precious moments in our friendship and be reminded that although it's hard to leave old friends with lots of memories, it's also amazing how much moving opens up your life to more special friends - so thankful for amazing people in my life.
Really, I have stellar people around me right now both old and new.
Love them all.
In awe of them all.

I was equally jealous and totally thrilled for both of you this weekend!! So glad you guys had this time together to reconnect. Wishing you were on that plane tomorrow with Kara coming back to Nebraska! One of these days the whole gang will be back together in one place. I'm determined to make that happen. Even if it's just a girls' weekend in NYC or somethin'...we gotta do somethin'!

It was so, so good to see my "old" (hey, no saying either one of us is old, we just had b-days, we are sensitive!) friends! Thanks for giving me the "local" tour of D.C., a cool new necklace from India, and some massive blisters on my feet! Crazy walking in D.C. people! So good to get my Holly fix...need to get that more often.
