Book of Joshua

I love the book of Joshua.
Like, it's going down as one of my favorite books in the Bible.
who knew!?

My friend and I are just finishing up THIS study.
We highly recommend it.
It was goooood.
(ok, there were a few dull weeks but really, there's only so much you can pull from scripture when someone is just dividing up land amongst brothers....well, with the time we mama's had anyway...I'm sure there's some cool twisty stuff in those lists.  either way, we still recommend, HIGHLY!)

Do with a group or with a friend or on your own...it was easy like that.

My recap from the 13 weeks:

I took all the key phrases from the text that rang in my heart and mind throughout the study and compiled  them:

Be strong and courageous
Choose who you'll serve
Set up monuments
He will not leave you or forsake you
GET UP
Destroy the accursed, utterly destroy (referring to sin, for me)
Fear God
Take, Accept
Personally, BE a city of refuge or place of sanctuary for other people
The Lord God fights FOR you.
"Are you for us or for our enemies?", "Neither" (I am for the Lord)

and then I rewrote them:

In a spirit of selflessness, acting only out of trust and fear of God, be strong and courageous.
Eradicate sin in your life.  Personally, with God's provisions, destroy it.  It will spread.  It will infect, it will effect other people.
Destroy it.  If you fail any number of times, GET UP and destroy it again.  He will not leave you or forsake you.
The Lord God will fight for you, it is a matter of seeing Him and accepting Him.
Personally, out of selflessness too, be a city of refuge or house of sanctuary for others around you.
May your home and presence be protection and healing for others.
There is a choice in who to serve.  There is only room for One and if you choose sides, you'll be in the wrong place.  Be with the One who is above sides.  Choose the Lord God.  Serve Him exclusively, freely serve Him.
And when He fights for you, and when the sin is destroyed and when others heal.....set up monuments before the Lord as a remembrance of all He's done and will continue to do.  Monuments that bring only Him the glory and honor earned by His provisions.
Basically, Holly, be selfless.

and no, I will not be building 15 foot stone monuments in my yard every time God fights for me and answers a prayer!
although it is a funny thought.

My 'monuments' will look more like journal entries, confessions to others of God's answers, pictures on my wall, words out of my mouth, etc....monuments meaning: remembrance.

really, this book rocks!

Dude, totally going down as one of my favs too! I LOVE it! I kept thinking of the "GET.UP!" yesterday when I was all in self pity mode...picturing Joshua laying face down and God all, "GET.UP!"...AH! I loved it...maybe one of my favorite parts. I have so many favorite parts.

And, I really think you should build a 15 foot monument in your front yard...your neighbors already think your weird...might as well!

I'm ordering this today (I assume it's a personal, non borrow kind of book). I'm almost done with the Paul study I've been doing and NEED something else...something like this :)

Thanks for the recommendation!

and I "hi" Missy! I feel like I know you, even though I don't! :) Thanks for sharing your friend with me.
