ah nap time.
See, here's how it's supposed to go:
everyone agreeably lays down in their beds, blows me kisses as I leave, they stay there quietly asleep or not for 2 hours, every one wakes up happy, refreshed and ready for a great night.
are you laughing yet?!
here's what actually happens:
"it's nap time" I say
"NO!!!!!!!! BUT I DON'T WANT TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!! CAN I HAVE ____? CAN I HAVE _______ ?CAN I HAVE ________?" they say
"no, I said it's nap/rest time. You are going to go into your room and rest, that's it, I'm not talking about it with you any more" I respond
repeat 3 x's
everyone gets into their rooms, they have snacks, they have water, they have their blankets, they have, they have, they have.
is it quiet?
No, because even though they are by themselves they are girls and it takes every second of every day to fit those 10,000 words in, especially when you're a toddler and your vocabulary is limited, you have to get creative ya know.
So, the singing begins, the pretending there are 4 people in your room with you follows, and the 'reading' of books wraps it all up.
I'm not kidding, Lydia and Samantha talk through their entire rest time.
The babies 'talk' and 'sing' each other to sleep (it's hilarious - lots of squealing and laughing even if they were a crying mess when I put them in there!)
It's quite funny. You should be here.
If there was a prize for the loudest rest time in a household, we would win.
And they do come out/wake up rested and refreshed....they are all "afternoon people" - I don't know where they get it!?
On top of all that I always have these lofty ideas for what I'll do during rest time.
Blog (of course!), clean, organize, create, rest, read and exercise all while wearing my Wonder Woman cape!
what do I actually do?
sometimes I get some of that done but when Jake's gone I'm a little more tired so I sit down to blog and I just keep sitting and sitting and sitting.......
I can't fall asleep because....well, it's loud.
So I just sit, enjoy the background noise, blog surf and read.
This is funny stuff. To me anyway.
I can't wait to look back 10 years from now and read this.
I'm already shaking my head!

I am reading this as it is our nap time as well, Sophie is no longer sleeping and I am hoping she will go back to sleep, Sarah is yelling at me that Sophie is awake while she is watching a movie for her rest time. I am aware of the noise, but choosing to ignore it and be on a mommy vacation.
Amanda
Amen sister.
Nora and Sophie are usually fast asleep by now but because I had to go and post how cute they usually are at nap time, they are both screaming thier little lungs out right now....I'm ignoring too.
I always felt that as long as they stayed in their room... I didn't care if it was quiet. I have learned that sometimes they just need a break from me as much as I need a break from them. I relied on bungie cords to keep them in their room. Cruel? No....sanity.
My girls are the same way. There are times I wish I had a camera in there...I never peak when they are laughing hysterically. I consider it "their" time. I may never know...but it's fun to listen to and know they are happy!!

Happy Mother's Day Holly!! You are doing a great job!
