an email I just sent to a friend....

I reread this to myself, and it made me laugh.
Is there something wrong with me that I made myself laugh?
It was the 'she's so strange' kinda laugh so I'm hoping not.
(not the friend is strange, I'M strange.)

don't answer now, 'cause I know you're shopping, but WHAT DO YOU WEAR TO RUN IN when it's this cold!?

I kid you not, I started a 10 mile run on Sunday, turned around and cut it short at 5 miles, drove to Target and bought what I thought were warmer running clothes.
dude.

it's mostly my legs I can't keep warm, without making them super sweaty and without paying $80 for a pair of pants (or is that what I'm going to have to do?)

really, I wanna know!

and here was my answer:

ok. under 20 degrees i pull out the big guns. anything over 20 i just wear any old pair of pants (usually old navy yoga pants.) i have 2 pairs of pants for these ridiculous mornings - the first layer i call my running "tights" - the brand i have is ativa - got them at dicks. i'm sure you can find them online. not super cheap. but WORTH it. then i also have a pair of pants that are called nike "fit" - they have fleecy stuff inside - not fleece like our polka dot fleece, thinner than that, but thicker than normal pants. also got those at dicks. i wear BOTH when it's under 20 AND windy. just the thicker pants when it's under 20 (until it gets to single digits - then both again.) so...yes, you're going to have to spend money to be warm.

I wear a pair of under armor cold gear pants for weather under 30. Then add some tights under those for weather under 20 with wind. They keep me warm and comfortable. They are not cheap but if they keep me running outside and off the treadmill then I think it's worth it. My newest favorite cold running gear is a hat with a hole for my pony tail!

I have thought about asking you this all week because I don't like running in the cold. I have adequate clothes...I think...for waist down....but what about the face!? It freezes so fast! Therefore I am getting my ars handed to me on a step bench...but that's good too!
